Winter has arrived. Just like that. Last weekend we were all marveling at the balmy 18 Celcius we were experiencing, and declared that maybe global warming wasn't such a bad thing after all. Then, Wednesday, BAM! Winter. Cold, snow, ice, slush, you name it, we got it. And it stayed. And now they're calling for 5cm of snow tonight and 15cm tomorrow. UGH!! Not already!!
So yeah... winter arrived on the day that I had my interview. Thank goodness I had decided to wear flats since I was going to walk down to the Fed building, since it's just down the road and that parking probably wouldn't be much closer than here. But my flats have absolutely zero traction, so I pretty much skated my way over there. My period was starting after being late, so she was (is) extra mean. I popped Midol and was bent in half in pain before going. But I think some of the pain was caused by nervousness because after the interview it didn't hurt as much.
After going through security and all that stuff, I made my way to the third floor. I waited in the reception area not even a minute before a lady appeared and led me to a room where I was to be left alone for 20 minutes with a stack of questions for the interview and pages and pens to help me prepare to answer them. They were pretty hard and detail oriented questions. Like "List all the necessary steps in order to plan x,y,z". I was writing furiously and was done answering the question with about 30 seconds to spare before she came to get me. I'm so not used to writing a lot by hand anymore!
Then I followed her to the 4th floor for the actual interview, where three persons shot those questions at me and using my notes that I had just made, answered them as best I could. They were writing down everything that came out of my mouth. It felt so weird. Am I talking enough? too fast? not enough? Did I utter the keywords they are looking for?
When the interview was done I shook hands with the 3 persons and the other girl came to get me again and I followed her back to the 3rd floor, in a maze of corridors, to another empty room. At some point I was actually asking myself if I had to memorize the way in case this was like an orientation test or something. If she had left me there I would have been lost hehe. This time there was a laptop. I had to write a letter, and I had to proofread 2 contracts - one in english and one in french. I read and re-read the instructions paragraph for the letter writing question about a zillion times. It was as clear as mud. I wrote a letter and I'm fairly certain that they'll be able to determine that I can at least write mediocre letters.. but I have no idea if I wrote the letter to the right persons at all. The whole paragraph talked about writing a letter on behalf of the director, asking your team to come up with all the grant information between 5k-10k given out by the region etc etc. But the very last line of the paragraph said something about the response to the person who originally requested the information. Whatever... I think that I'm a pretty good reader... my preferred style of communication is writing... so I don't know what my problem (or theirs?) was...
I don't feel confident in my performance at all... They are offereing two positions and one is especially sparking my interrest.. but I am employed, and I did my best. So whatever happens happens right?
I'm sure you did fine! I can't wait to hear the response!
What's done is done, and to boot - we are always our own worst critics! You were brave and gave it your all.
All crossables crossed for you!
I`m sure you rocked it! Worse case scenario you do have a job to fall back on. So, don`t worry about it and let things happen ;)
That sounds SO insane. I probably would've cried half way through. LOL... when do you hear back?
It's definitely winter here too!
Hi N! Yes, winter is here, too. Not too much accumulation yet, but definitely cold. Brrr. I had to dress Emily like an Eskimo to go to daycare. Glad your interview went well,l I bet you totally aced it. Now the fun part -- waiting. When do you expect to hear back?
Good luck!!
